Money to Burn

German teacher Dirk Engel, 48, discovered more than 150,000 pounds in used German marks stuffed in the fireplace of the house he had just purchased in the German city of Duesseldorf.

The notes are believed to have been hidden there by the previous owner of the property in the 1970s. They died without having any relatives - and left the property to a German charity in the city of Bielefeld, which sold it without realising the money was hidden in the fireplace.

Both the teacher and the charity have claimed the money is rightfully theirs.
