Women On Top

Women who live alone are more likely to be a success in their careers than those who live with partners, a new survey of bosses in Germany has revealed.

The study - revealed in the country's micro-census results - showed that 17 per cent of middle aged women who live by themselves have management careers, compared to just 13 per cent among those with husbands or partners.

Meanwhile, just 21 per cent of men living alone had a top job, rising to 26 per cent for married men.

The figure emerged while census analysts were studying a growing trend for a growth in the number of people living alone.

The study shows the percentage of young men without partners has almost doubled from 11 per cent in 1991 to 19 per cent in 2011.
