School Massacre Threats on the Rise
German authorities have warned they deal with at least 400 reports of school children threatening to massacre their teachers and fellow students each year.
Cologne University psychologist Sarah Neuhäuser said the true figure may be even higher. She compiled her report using data from regional interior ministries.
Nearly half of the threats came from the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia where in four years, 1,279 threats were logged.
Germany has suffered several school shootings in recent years. In 2002 a former pupil ran amok at his school in Erfurt killing 12 teachers, two students, a secretary and a policeman before taking his own life.
Then in 2009, 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer killed 15 people at a school in Winnenden before turning the gun he had stolen from his father's bedroom on himself.
