Water Shock

Mum Sarah Kaiser, 28, almost lost her car and her kids when she was strapping her two-year-old daughter into the backseat and her five-year-old son started the machine up and drove towards the harbour at Duesseldorf in Germany.

The young mother had just finished shopping at the local supermarket and returned to the silver Peugeot car with her two children which was parked at the car park next to the river Rhine.

She told local police: "I put the key in the ignition to use the electronic button to open the boot and load up the shopping and I left it there as the engine was not running."

But as she was strapping her daughter in her son David sat in the driver's seat and started turning the steering wheel and then turned the ignition key.

The starter motor then sent the car jumping across the car park with the front wheels toppling over the edge of the harbour.

She said: "If it gone over the edge it could have been a disaster instead my son had a very valuable lesson and the car was not damaged.

"But either way I will be more careful with the ignition keys in future."

Local police and firemen helped put the car back in a safe place, and the woman was allowed to drive home with her repentant son.
