Golden Shot
A 67-year-old jeweller who shot and killed an armed robber in the back of the head has been spared jail after judges ruled she'd acted in self-defence.
Shop owner Karin Schmidt from Hesse, Germany - had been held up by an 18-year-old masked crook waving a realistic looking air pistol.
But as she went into a store-room the jeweller picked up a hidden revolver and shot the robber while his back was turned.
Judges said she was not guilty of manslaughter because she had not intended to fire the handgun.
"I was holding the weapon in my hand and suddenly it fired," she told the court.
But she was given an eight month suspended jail sentence for not calling the emergency services quickly enough.
"She called her husband first and not the ambulance or the police and that was wrong," said judges.
