Got Talent Sued for Mental Torture

A 69-year-old holidaymaker who was mocked as 'the Monster from the Deep' when he blundered into shot during a reality show filming is demanded 21,000 GBP from producers for "mental torture."

Pensioner Herbert Petz emerged on camera as Germany's Got Talent presenters were recording part of the show at a luxury hotel in the Indian Ocean holiday paradise, the Maldives.

But when the show made it to TV, his accidental role was kept in with a comedy voice-over, complete with a soundtrack of horror film-style music.

"And now gruesome, dangerous, ravenous - the monster from the deep," the voice said as Petz was filmed climbing out of the hotel pool behind the judges.

"He looks like a beer bottle," added the presenter, sniggering at Petz's pot belly.

Petz told media in his native Austria: "Everybody was talking about it. Even a cousin I hadn't heard from in years called from Germany to tell me the whole country was laughing at me."

"I've had to have counselling and psychiatric help. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't rest, all because of a stupid, cheap joke," he added.

German broadcasters RTE have already paid Petz 9,000 GBP compensation - but says it will fight a new writ claiming further 21,000 GBP for the slur.

"We have been very generous," said a spokesman.
