Teachers who were caught sending kids at the village primary school in Mandelbachtal in the tiny southwestern state of Saarland in Germany to do their weekly grocery shopping claimed it was part of the kids home economics class.
Local Education Ministry Secretary Andrea Becker said that they had ordered the unorthodox lessons to stop after getting a complaint from parents.
"Clearly, this is not allowed," the state secretary said adding that the school had been ordered to put an immediate stop to children being sent on private errands.
The ministry became aware of the situation after the summer holidays, when angry parents complained that their children were being sent to do the teacher’s grocery shopping when they should have been in class.
"The ministry reacted as soon as it was informed," Becker wrote in a statement, but she declined to provide further details.
