Deadly Farce
Dim treasure hunter Martin Fisher sparked a full-scale bomb scare when he dug up a live World War II mortar round - and drove 10 miles to a police station to hand it in.
The 25lb cluster bomb - powerful enough to blow up a tank - was seized by army bomb disposal experts in Wuppertal, Germany, who destroyed it in a controlled explosion.
Fisher, 44, had unearthed the bomb during a treasure hunting session in local woods.
"Instead of leaving it where he was he picked it up and chucked it into the passenger footwell of his car where it rattled around as he drove through the town until he got to us." said a police spokesman.
"It's not a course of action we would recommend.
"These ancient unexploded devices are very dangerous and can go off very easily when they are disturbed," they added.
